“ Herewith some photos of the modifications I’ve made to my boat (Margarita) this year.
1. I’ve fitted a ’tiller tamer’ to help keep on course when sailing singlehanded, and a different tiller extension with a handle grip.
2. The mainsheet traveller helps a bit in certain wind conditions, but I’m going to change the end fittings so that the control line goes through a pulley and into a jammer on the side deck.
3. The gennaker bag in the hatch. I’ve tied a short bar to the mast underneath the cabin roof, and then have tied a piece of dyneema from one side of the hatch entrance, round each end of the bar, and back to the other side of the hatch. The bag has 4 clips (one at each corner), which clip on to the rope. It makes it easy to launch and retrieve, particularly singlehanded. I have separated the halyard from the tack line.
4.I’ve fitted 60cm jib tracks and adjustable blocks, with the control lines through clamcleats. It makes a big difference upwind, and with the new pentex genoa I can get the telltales flying right up the luff.
5. There is a bobstay to hold the gennaker pole tight, and minimize wear on the stemhead fitting (I sent a mail earlier in the year about the wear in the hole on the original stemhead, which was changed by my Jeanneau dealer. I’ve bolted the forestay to the stemhead now, and so far it seems to have stopped the wear.“
Belle personnalisation! Mais ce n’est pas tout:
“Finally, a photo of 2 of our Sun 2ks on the moorings as we rowed ashore after the race today.
The pentex racing sails in the photo I sent last week were made by Momentum, and were around £1,400 including full battens, 2 reefs, a cover for the genoa (you can see it in the last photo above), sail numbers and delivery. Hugh Myers [myers [AT] momentumsails [DOT] com] is the guy I dealt with at the Southampton Boat Show last year. He came down to the club to measure my boat, and he has done a great job. The genoa luff needed to be a few cms shorter perhaps - I had to shorten all the shackles on the head and foot, and move a fitting for the jib halyard on the mast before I could get the right luff tension, but the other 2 Sun 2ks who bought sails at the same time are fine. Buying 3 sets together in winter helped us get a good price.
I hope this is of interest to other Sun 2k sailors. Thanks for your enthusiastic support!
Regards Rob“
